Strathmore/GROSVENOR Metro Totem Project

Strathmore Music Hall partnered with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMTA) to create a project for high school students in advanced ceramics classes that would allow them to experience creating a public art installation. In November 2015, I submitted a design for a totem and was selected to complete one of 38 seven-foot tall sculptures to be placed along a walkway lining the Strathmore/Grosvenor Metro garage. From February to May 2016, I worked with a team of three other advanced ceramics students to make my design a reality. The totem went on display in June 2016 and will be there for five years as part of the Arts Walk. These photos were taken throughout construction.

YOUTH ART FOR HEALING • NATIONAL ART HONORS SOCIETY

Youth Art For Healing (YAFH) is a nonprofit organization that brings works of art created by youth into healthcare environments to provide a sense of comfort, inspiration and healing for patients and their loved ones, and healthcare professionals. The students of Winston Churchill High School's National Arts Honors Society (NAHS) worked with YAFH to create eight animation-style, marine-themed paintings for Holy Cross Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department. I lead a group of eight art students in producing a 24" x 36" canvas painting to be placed in the triage area. The paintings were displayed in May 2016 and will be there indefinitely.
